RACHEL KEYSER
Often called the "Mother Tongue" approach, the Suzuki Method focuses on teaching children to play music like they learn to speak their native languages. When Shinichi Suzuki realized that young children learn to speak their native language with ease, after first listening to the language being spoken, he realized the implications this could have on learning music. Some special hallmarks of the Suzuki method include parental involvement, patient and tailored instruction for each family, repetition and review, listening, and development of the whole child. By using these techniques, Suzuki believed that every child's natural ability would be nurtured.
